Quite a few changes here as well as in the NFL. We've done away with the complex retention rules and replaced them with complex long-term contract rules. Got rid of the in-season taxi squad for replacements and simplified it, which should make for some interesting roster management moves as well. No management turnover (yet.) Figure the learning curves have been overcome and the two newbies will be forces to recon with this season. One of them was LAST season!
Meanwhile over in the NFLC we have a dozen new rules but only two that will effect us casual fans. The first is the new kickoff setup. S'possed to result in more returns and fewer injuries. We'll see. The second is also a doozy. As the Babylon Bee put it:
“Football fans were left confused and frustrated after news broke that new NFL rules will require opposing teams to just hug it out rather than engage in hitting, tackling, or playing football.
The new rules, officially approved and adopted by the league this week, will limit physical contact between opposing players to gentle, caring hugs in an effort to eliminate any risk of injury.
"This is the future of the game," said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. "It has been our mission for many years now to reduce the chances of our players suffering physical injuries. That long journey has now led us to this historic moment. Loving, compassionate hugs will now be the cornerstone of the National Football League."
You'll also note the alignment changes have been implemented. Pretty sure the schedule is correct. And I've been trying to keep the conference jumping players correct. As always if you see an error, report it. Demons, Eagles and Kings are quietly awaiting the first three picks of the draft. Date not yet set but likely to be August 31 at noon. We'll begin deciding that once school is out. In the meantime we have the following dates coming up:
From now until May 4th players may be extended. THESE players will be the ones subject to the long-term contract rules. I'll start making mine at the rate of about one per day on April 8th.
The NFL draft will be held April 25th.
The KPFFL Free Agent Auction will begin at midnight on Bastille Day.
As always questions are welcome. And best of luck in 2024!
